Introducing the Global Alliance to End Statelessness to the civil society organizations and other stakeholders working in MENA Region

The MENA Statelessness Network (Hawiati), Salam for Democracy and Human Rights (SALAM DHR), and the Global Campaign for Equal Nationality Rights (GCENR), members of the Global Alliance to End Statelessness (GA), recognize the importance of the GA’s mission and activities in ending statelessness and advancing equal nationality rights for all. Building on their work and commitment to this cause, Hawiati, SALAM DHR and GCENR are hosting an online event by invitation to introduce the GA to civil society organizations (CSOs), stateless persons/persons impacted by discriminatory nationality laws, activists, law firms, research centers and academics across the region.

SALAM DHR will chair the event, guiding discussions and facilitating engagement with participants.

Duration: 1.5 hours
Language: Arabic – English interpretation will be available.

 Participants: By invitation only, including NGOs, civil society organizations, stateless persons, activists, academic institutions, research centers, law firms, and members of the GA in the MENA region.

  Event Agenda:

  • Welcome and Introduction – Brief welcome and overview of the event – SALAM DHR (5 minutes)
  • Statelessness in MENA region – Hawiati (15 minutes)
  • Presentation on the Global Alliance – an overview of the GA’s approach, vision, mission, objectives, and organizational structure – GA (15 minutes)
  • Stateless/impacted communities’ engagement in Campaigns and Advocacy – GCENR & GMAS (10 minutes)
  • Q&A and Open Discussion – Audience interaction with the speakers, to foster engagement and understanding (40 minutes)
  • Closing Remarks (5 minutes)

Accelerating solutions through multi-stakeholder action: a panel by the Global Alliance at the World Conference on Statelessness

From 26-29 February 2024, the World Conference on Statelessness, organized by the Institute on Statelessness and Inclusion, Nationality for All and Development of Human Resources for Rural Areas Malaysia, will be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

On 28 February 2024, the Solidarity theme day of the conference, UNHCR will host a panel on Expediting Solutions through the New Multistakeholder Global Alliance to End Statelessness. The event will introduce the Global Alliance to civil society organizations, stateless-led organizations and other stakeholders.

Towards the Summit of the Future: Ending Statelessness & Upholding Equal Nationality Rights

The 2024 United Nations Civil Society Conference in Support of the Summit of the Future is a premier event on the civil society calendar at the United Nations, ahead of the September 2024 Summit of the Future. On 9 May, the Global Campaign for Equal Nationality Rights, the Global Movement against Statelessness, Women’s Refugee Commission and UNHCR are co-organizing a panel entitled, ‘Ending Statelessness & Upholding Equal Nationality Rights for Inclusive, Sustainable Development’. 

The panel will take place on 9 May 2024 at 7AM EST/13PM CET/14PM EAT/19PM MYT. Arabic and French interpretation will be available. Register online today!
