PILnet

PILnet is global non-governmental organization (NGO) that partners with legal professionals and civil society organizations (CSOs) to protect civic space, address global challenges, and work to build just, equitable, and sustainable societies. PILnet does this by supporting civil society, engaging legal professionals, and nurturing the next generation of public interest lawyers in three strategic priority areas: civic space, climate justice, and forced displacement. PILnet currently has offices in New York, Budapest, and Hong Kong, but operates globally with programs in different regions.

PILnet coordinates the multi-stakeholder GRF Legal Community Pledge, which aims to increase legal assistance for and with stateless and displaced people, and to advance systemic change to facilitate their access to rights, justice and solutions. Through its Pro Bono Pitching Roundtables and Refugee-Led Clearing House, PILnet builds innovative multi-stakeholder pro bono projects, to increase access to legal assistance for displaced and stateless people and those at risk of being stateless. It also brokers free legal assistance for CSOs working to address statelessness, to strengthen their organizational legal resilience, save costs on legal fees for transactional work (e.g. review of contractual agreements, disputes with landlords or other stakeholders), and help them to expand their programming (e.g. if they need legal advice around establishing a new office or to hire refugee staff).
