Terms of Use of the Global Alliance to End Statelessness Website

Use of this website, and all pages in this domain (together, the “Global Alliance website”), constitutes acceptance of the following terms and conditions.

  1. The Global Alliance to End Statelessness Website

UNHCR, in its capacity of the Secretariat of the Global Alliance to End Statelessness (hereinafter, the “Global Alliance”), is hosting the Global Alliance website on behalf of the Members of the Global Alliance, which include UN system organizations, regional intergovernmental organizations, member States of the United Nations, non-governmental and stateless-led organizations participating in the Global Alliance Portal (collectively “Participants”).

The information presented within the Global Alliance website is made available to those who may choose to access the website (“Users”) for informative purposes only. All content, including documents, photographs, video, or audio materials (collectively “Materials”) on the Global Alliance website is made available by UNHCR on behalf of the Participants for personal, non-commercial use without any right to resell or redistribute the Materials or to compile or create derivative works therefrom. Extracts of the information in this website may be reviewed, reproduced, or translated for research or private study but not for sale or for use in conjunction with commercial purposes. Any use of the Materials from the Global Alliance website shall be accompanied by an acknowledgment of the source, citing the uniform resource locator (URL) of the text.

Any use other than for personal or educational purposes, including reproduction or translation of substantial portions of the Materials of the Global Alliance website requires the express prior written permission of the Alliance Secretariat hosted by UNHCR and, if applicable the relevant Participants who own the Materials. All Materials of the Global Alliance website are protected by law including, as applicable, copyright laws. The Participants reserve the right to seek all remedies available by law for any violation of these terms of use, including any violation of rights in their names and emblem and as well as their rights in connection with the information, artwork, text, video, audio, or photo materials of the Global Alliance website.

The Materials are selected on the basis of the Participants and the Global Alliance Secretariat’s own criteria and in their own sole discretion. The Global Alliance Secretariat reserves the right at any time to change or discontinue any aspect or feature of the Global Alliance website, including but not limited to these terms of use, hours of availability and equipment needed for use.

  1. Disclaimer

Participants and the Global Alliance Secretariat periodically add, change, improve or update the Materials on this website without notice. Under no circumstances shall the Participants and/or the Global Alliance Secretariat be liable for any loss, damage, liability, or expense incurred or suffered that is claimed to have resulted from the use of this website, including, without limitation, any fault, error, omission, interruption or delay with respect thereto. The use of this website is at the User’s sole risk. Under no circumstances, including but not limited to negligence, shall the Participants and/or the Global Alliance Secretariat be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, even if the Participants and/or the Global Alliance to End Statelessness Secretariat has been advised of the possibility of such damages.

Unless expressly stated otherwise, the findings, interpretations and conclusions expressed in the Materials on this website are those of the various Participants, Secretariat representatives, consultants and advisers to the Global Alliance Secretariat, who prepared them and do not necessarily represent the views of the United Nations, including UNHCR or other participating UN-system organizations, intergovernmental organizations or their Member States. The responsibility for opinions expressed in signed articles, studies, and other contributions rests solely with their authors, and publication does not constitute an endorsement by the United Nations, UNHCR, or any other Participant of the opinions expressed in them.

The use of particular designations of countries or territories does not imply any judgment by UNHCR, the United Nations including other participating UN-system agencies, and intergovernmental organizations, as to the legal status of such countries or territories, of their authorities and institutions or of the delimitation of their boundaries.

The mention of names of specific companies or commercial products or processes (whether or not indicated as registered) does not imply any intention to infringe proprietary rights, nor should it be construed as an endorsement or recommendation on the part of the United Nations, UNHCR, or other UN-system organizations, and any other Participants sharing content on the Global Alliance website.

  1. Responsibility for Participant- Generated Content

a. UNHCR’s right to use of Participant – Generated Content

Concerning all content Participants may share on the Global Alliance website (“Participant -Generated Content”), the Participants acknowledge that such content is treated as being non-proprietary and non-confidential. If as a Participant you send this content to us, either via email, by tagging content on a social network, or via a specifically designed upload site, you are granting UNHCR the irrevocable, perpetual, non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide right to use, reproduce, modify, and publish such content elsewhere in UNHCR websites and publications. Furthermore, you grant UNHCR the right to use the name that you submit in connection with such content. However, you still own and can continue to use your content as you like including the ability to also allow others to use it.

If you upload or share your content on the Global Alliance website or relating social media accounts, it might be used by UNHCR on any UNHCR websites or social media accounts across the globe.

UNHCR does not pay for, nor does it generate any revenue from selling or licensing individual pieces of Participant-Generated Content.

b. Conditions to Upload Content on the Global Alliance website

When you share content with the Global Alliance website, you must only submit/share your own original content. If your content contains the work(s) of others (e.g. music, images and/or video) you must have obtained the necessary rights or permissions to use that material. If your content clearly identifies anyone else, you will need to ensure that the persons concerned have consented to the content being used by UNHCR, as the Secretariat of the Global Alliance. Where your content clearly identifies children under the age of 16 you must ensure that their parent or guardian has provided their consent as set out above.

UNHCR also requires that you do not submit or share any material or information:

  1.  That is knowingly false or misleading, defamatory, infringing, obscene, indecent, threatening or invasive of a person’s privacy or unlawful in any way;
  2.  Which you do not own or for which you have not obtained all necessary licences and/or approvals as may be required by law;
  3. Which is technically harmful (including, without limitation, files that contain viruses, corrupted files or any other similar software or programs that may damage the operation of another’s computer);
  4.  Impersonating any person or entity, or falsely stating or otherwise misrepresenting your affiliation with anyone or any entity.
  5.  Deleting any author attributions, legal notices or proprietary designations or labels in any file that is uploaded;
  6.  Falsifying the origin or source of software or other material contained in a file that is uploaded;
  7.  Advertising or offering to sell any goods or services, or conducting or forwarding surveys, contests or chain letters, or downloading any file posted by another user of UNHCR websites that you know, or reasonably should know, cannot be legally distributed in such a manner.

Any inappropriate content will be rejected or removed from the Global Alliance website and relating social media accounts. If in doubt, please do not share your content. If you post on, or transmit to, any of our websites any material of the type prohibited under the above paragraphs or any applicable laws and regulations, and UNHCR incurs any costs, expenses, liability or losses as a result then you agree to indemnify UNHCR for all such costs, expenses, liability or losses.

You should be aware that UNHCR is entitled to reveal your identity (or any information which it has about you) to any third party who is claiming that any of that content shared with UNHCR violates any of their rights or to any government or regulatory authority that may request UNHCR to do so.

c. Uploading Content to Social Networks

If you upload content to a social network and then tag the Global Alliance  or the Global Alliance website, your submission will be subject to that website’s terms of use and privacy policy. Please be aware of a website’s terms and privacy policy, which may differ from the Global Alliance’s website, when submitting your content to it.

  1. Links to Other Websites

This site contains hypertext links to other sites. Participants assume no responsibility for the validity or accuracy of content posted on those websites including their privacy practices.

  1. Names and Emblems

The names, emblems and logos of Participants are the exclusive property of the respective entities. They are protected under national and international law. Unauthorized use is prohibited. They may not be copied or reproduced in any way without the prior written permission of the entity concerned.

  1. Preservation of Immunities

Nothing herein shall constitute or be considered to be a limitation upon or a waiver of the privileges and immunities of the United Nations, including UNHCR and other UN-system organizations, intergovernmental organizations or their member States participating in this initiative, and are specifically reserved.

  1. General

UNHCR, in its capacity as the Secretariat of the Global Alliance, reserves its exclusive right in its sole discretion to alter, limit or discontinue the website or any Materials in any respect. UNHCR, in its capacity as the Secretariat of the Global Alliance, shall have no obligation to take the needs of any User into consideration in connection therewith.

UNHCR, in its capacity as the Secretariat of the Global Alliance, reserves the right to deny in its sole discretion any user access to this website or any portion thereof without notice. No waiver by the UNHCR, in its capacity as the Global Alliance Secretariat, of any provision of these Terms and Conditions shall be binding except as set forth in writing and signed by its duly authorized representative.

UNHCR in its capacity as the Secretariat of the Global Alliance to End Statelessness is committed to fair information practice and respects the privacy and security of Users. It will collect information during your visits in order to understand your usage and ensure future content decision reflect your needs. No information collected during your visits will be shared to any third party.

UNHCR in its capacity as the Secretariat of the Global Alliance collects information in several ways: from our Web server logs, cookies and also specific searches you may conduct.
