The Centre for Supporters of Human Rights

The Centre for Supporters of Human Rights (CSHR) is an independent, non-governmental organisation dedicated to promoting human rights and the rule of law in Iran, with a focus on equality, justice, and protection for vulnerable and marginalised communities. Our mission is to document violations, empower affected individuals, and advocate for structural reforms consistent with international human rights norms.

CSHR seeks to join the Global Alliance to End Statelessness out of a strong commitment to address the persistent and often overlooked issue of statelessness in Iran. Despite its obligations under international law, Iran continues to face complex challenges related to nationality and legal identity. Discriminatory laws, gender inequality in nationality transmission, and the exclusion of certain ethnic, religious, and nomadic communities have contributed to generations of stateless persons and individuals at risk of statelessness. Women married to foreign nationals, children born to undocumented parents, and minority populations such as the Baha’i, Kurdish, and Afghan communities often find themselves deprived of nationality and the rights that flow from it.

For CSHR, statelessness is not only a legal issue but a profound human rights concern that affects access to education, healthcare, employment, and social participation. It perpetuates cycles of poverty, discrimination, and invisibility. Ending statelessness is therefore integral to our broader mission of defending human dignity and equality before the law.

By joining the Global Alliance, CSHR hopes to contribute our expertise in research, documentation, and advocacy, while learning from global and regional best practices. We aim to collaborate with Alliance members to promote awareness, strengthen legal frameworks, and support policy reforms that guarantee every individual’s right to nationality. CSHR can provide context-specific insights from Iran and the wider region, amplifying the voices of those whose citizenship rights have been denied or undermined.

Membership in the Alliance will enable us to engage in collective advocacy and coordinate efforts to influence both national and international mechanisms. Together, we can advance the global call to end statelessness and ensure that every person enjoys full recognition before the law.

Joining this Alliance reflects our unwavering belief that no one should be left without a country, an identity, or a place to belong.
