Fundación Tendiendo Puentes en Centroamérica

Edipcia Juliana Dubón Castro

Fundación Puentes para el Desarrollo de Centroamérica was established in Costa Rica in a context of forced exile. The organization was created by Nicaraguans who sought refuge in Costa Rica to protect our lives and our freedom, thanks to the solidarity and support of Costa Rican women and human rights organizations.
From Costa Rica, we decided to place our professional expertise at the service of research and advocacy on economic and social rights in Central America, with the aim of raising awareness about the living conditions of vulnerable populations, including refugees, migrants, and communities affected by structural inequalities and shrinking civic space.
In 2023, two members of our foundation were arbitrarily stripped of their Nicaraguan nationality by the regime through judicial decisions. This experience led us to explicitly incorporate nationality as a human right as one of the core areas of our work, as well as to advocate for people affected by denationalization, statelessness, and de facto statelessness.
Today, we work on documenting, analyzing, and raising awareness about the human rights impacts of these practices, while promoting advocacy, research, and regional and international collaboration to defend the right to nationality and support people affected by statelessness.
