LegalHub

LegalHub is dedicated to protecting the rights of individuals and communities affected by statelessness, with a particular focus on Belarusian families forced into exile. Since 2023, Belarusian authorities have ceased issuing identification documents for children at embassies and consulates abroad, requiring parents to return to Belarus—a step that can be dangerous for those who fled following the 2020 crackdown on civil society and independent media. This policy leaves families in a precarious position, forced to choose between their safety and securing their child’s legal identity.
Through the Childoc project, LegalHub aims to provide country-specific guidance to help parents navigate these challenges safely, ensuring that children born in exile can obtain legal documentation and recognition in their countries of birth without exposing their families to risk. By offering clarity and security in an otherwise overwhelming situation, LegalHub works to prevent statelessness and ensure that every child has access to legal identity and fundamental rights from birth.
Joining the Global Alliance would allow LegalHub to share its first-hand experience and practical solutions with a global network of organisations dedicated to ending statelessness. At the same time, it would enable us to learn from more experienced partners, strengthen our capacity to prevent cases of factual statelessness, address the issue of de jure nationality, amplify advocacy for children’s rights, and foster collaboration to address this urgent issue.
