Southern African Nationality Network
The Southern African Nationality Network (SANN) was established by Lawyers for Human Rights (South Africa) in 2016. SANN represents a collective of individuals with lived experience of statelessness, civil society organisations, community-based organisations, grass-roots organisations, faith-based organisations, child-protection agencies, members of academia, media actors, and other networks and coalitions dedicated to addressing statelessness and promoting the right to nationality across Southern Africa.
SANN works to build regional solidarity and collaboration to tackle nationality-related challenges, with a focus on ensuring that every individual has access to legal identity and the protection of their nationality rights. The network engages in advocacy, research, capacity building, and public awareness campaigns, seeking to influence law and policy reform to prevent and reduce statelessness. Through its coordinated efforts, SANN amplifies the voices of affected communities and strengthens the capacity of its members to challenge nationality-based discrimination and exclusion across the region. |
