1st Global Alliance Townhall Meeting (Session 1)
The Global Alliance will host its first Townhall Meeting on 24 and 25 February 2025, held online via Microsoft Teams. To accommodate members across different time zones, two identical sessions will be offered.
- Session 1: February 24 | 08:00 New York ( GMT-5) time / 14:00 Geneva (GMT+1) time / 00:00 (Feb 25) Melbourne (GMT+11) time
- Session 2: February 25 | 16:00 New York / 22:00 Geneva / 08:00 (Feb 26) Melbourne
This Townhall will introduce the Thematic Working Groups (TWGs) and their co-chairs, highlight key takeaways from the first Advisory Committee meeting, and outline plans for 2025.
The meeting is open to all Global Alliance members, and Microsoft Teams connection links have been sent directly to them. For any questions, please contact the Global Alliance Secretariat at [email protected].

High-Level Segment on Statelessness (HLS) and Launch of the Global Alliance
Event type: in-person/livestreamed
The High-Level Segment (HLS) on Statelessness will take place in the Palais des Nations (building E, room XIX) in Geneva on day one of the 75th Session of the Executive Committee of the High Commissioner’s Programme (ExCom). The Global Alliance to End Statelessness will be officially launched at the event.
The HLS and launch will be livestreamed via the UN Web TV starting at 10:00 CET (Geneva time), 14 October 2024. You can access the stream here.
HLS linked event: Effective strategies against statelessness – dialogue with the UNHCR Assistant High Commissioner for Protection and civil society changemakers
Event type: in-person
The HLS-linked event will take place in the Palais des Nations (building E, exhibition space) in Geneva and will provide a platform for exchange with the UNHCR’s Assistant High Commissioner for Protection and civil society organizations on effective multi-stakeholder strategies against statelessness and how to accelerate change through the new Global Alliance.
HLS side-event – The role of regional organizations to ending statelessness
Event type: in-person
The HLS side-event will take place in the Palais des Nations (building E, room XXVI) and will focus on the role of regional organizations to addressing statelessness, highlighting successful initiatives such as engaging lawmakers, shaping regional legal frameworks, and promoting cross-border collaboration. The panel discussion aims to inspire and inform participants by sharing good practices and fostering mutual learning, exploring how regional organizations can benefit from and contribute to the Global Alliance.
First Global Alliance Regional Network Lab
Event type: in-person
The first Global Alliance Regional Network Lab (RNL) under the topic “Strengthening trans-regional exchange and knowledge-sharing to support changemaking efforts” will take place in Geneva for regional civil society networks and organizations. Through three participatory workshops and spaces for reflection, as well as pre- and post-event participatory engagement, the RNL will facilitate learning and exchange on the development of regional statelessness civil society networks, and the co-development, sharing, and translation of knowledge – including both lived and learned expertise – into law and policy reform at national and regional level to better protect the rights of stateless people and enable everyone to realize their right to a nationality.
Online Meet-and-Greet Meeting of the Global Alliance Advisory Committee
The online meet-and-greet meeting of the Advisory Committee will allow members to connect for the first time, reflect on key takeaways from the recent High-Level Segment (HLS) on Statelessness and Global Alliance launch, and discuss preliminary plans for the first Advisory Committee in-person meeting on 28-29 January 2025.
This is an invite-only meeting for the Global Alliance Advisory Committee members.

First Global Alliance Advisory Committee Meeting (in-person), Geneva, Switzerland
The first in-person meeting of the Global Alliance Advisory Committee will take place in a residential setting in Geneva on 28–29 January 2025, and will focus on the election of co-chairs and development of the Global Alliance Workplan for 2025-2026, and further operationalization of workstreams.
