Upcoming 2nd Quarterly Meetings of the Global Alliance Thematic Working Groups
We are pleased to announce the upcoming 2nd quarterly meetings of the three Global Alliance Thematic Working Groups (TWGs), which will take place virtually via Zoom on 27 May, 3 and 9 June 2026. These sessions provide an opportunity for Alliance members to exchange expertise, discuss ongoing initiatives, and contribute to collaborative efforts under the 2026 TWG workplans.
All three meetings will be open to all members of the Global Alliance to End Statelessness. Meeting invites and Zooms links have been sent to the focal points of all Alliance Members, and they are encouraged to forward them to all relevant colleagues. You may also reach out to the Secretariat to ask for the invites and Zoom links directly – please do so at [email protected].

Key Agenda Highlights
Ending Childhood Statelessness
The meeting will focus on finalising key opportunities and advocacy priorities for 2026, including regional webinars, a Human Rights Council side-event, work on access to justice and effective remedies, and a global initiative on implementing the child’s right to identity. Members will also discuss communications coordination and opportunities for engagement in upcoming activities.
Addressing Discrimination in Nationality Laws & Policies
This session will include a testimony from an impacted mother, a case study discussion on campaigning for gender-equal nationality laws, and an introduction to the Legal Atlas on Gender Discrimination in Nationality Laws. The meeting will also provide space for updates, discussion, and exchange among members.
Protecting the Rights of Stateless Persons
The meeting will include updates on ongoing TWG initiatives, discussions on the 2026 workplan, a protection good practices map, facilitated naturalisation, and a draft advocacy brief on protecting the rights of stateless persons, alongside updates and exchanges with members.

While all Alliance members are welcome to attend these open quarterly sessions, members are strongly encouraged to formally join one or more TWGs to contribute more systematically to the Global Alliance’s collaborative efforts to end statelessness.

Endorse the Global Refugee Forum 2023 Multistakeholder Pledge on ending statelessness and join the new Global Alliance
For the Global Refugee Forum 2023, stakeholders are encouraged to make Multistakeholder pledges, which are joint pledges with a large-scale reach, working towards an ambitious common goal.

Accelerating solutions through multi-stakeholder action: a panel by the Global Alliance at the World Conference on Statelessness
From 26-29 February 2024, the World Conference on Statelessness, organized by the Institute on Statelessness and Inclusion, Nationality for All and Development of Human Resources for Rural Areas Malaysia, will be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
On 28 February 2024, the Solidarity theme day of the conference, UNHCR will host a panel on Expediting Solutions through the New Multistakeholder Global Alliance to End Statelessness. The event will introduce the Global Alliance to civil society organizations, stateless-led organizations and other stakeholders.

Towards the Summit of the Future: Ending Statelessness & Upholding Equal Nationality Rights
The 2024 United Nations Civil Society Conference in Support of the Summit of the Future is a premier event on the civil society calendar at the United Nations, ahead of the September 2024 Summit of the Future. On 9 May, the Global Campaign for Equal Nationality Rights, the Global Movement against Statelessness, Women’s Refugee Commission and UNHCR are co-organizing a panel entitled, ‘Ending Statelessness & Upholding Equal Nationality Rights for Inclusive, Sustainable Development’.
The panel will take place on 9 May 2024 at 7AM EST/13PM CET/14PM EAT/19PM MYT. Arabic and French interpretation will be available. Register online today!
